Dr Norman Orentreich, an NYU Dermatologist performed the first-ever hair transplant in 1952 to treat the male pattern hair loss.

Back then, the doctors were using the plug technique which required the extraction of the large punch grafts. Those punched grafts were enough to extract dozens of the hair from the back of the scalp. As it was the only technique available (No other technique like FUT, FUE or Bio FUE was there), it could be compared with any procedure.
